Brand Brings Identity to Revitalized Community

NEIGHBORHOOD IDENTITY – JACKSON STREET FACELIFT CONTINUES, GETS NEW SPOTLIGHT

Visible efforts have launched to build a sense of neighborhood identity within several blocks of West Jackson Street that have been the target of a now years-long effort to fight blight and encourage new housing construction.

A low gateway sign accented by landscaping now faces the eastbound lane of West Jackson Street near the intersection of Joyner Street.

The sign declares the area “Jackson West.” Banners bearing a similar logo dot the utility poles throughout the blocks between the intersection of Joyner Street and Clayton Avenue.

It’s the latest face of a city-funded effort to transform an area once known for rising crime rates and deteriorating homes.

“The rebranding has given it a better image,” said Duke Loden, a local realtor and chairman of the nonprofit Neighborhood Development Corporation.

The “Jackson West” name and logo were developed about two years ago by local marketing firm Mabus Agency. NDC hired the firm and is now increasingly active in implementation of the materials Mabus designed.
